Hockley Youth Wind Band

A friendly Wind Band for young people who have reached around Grade 1 standard or above. Rehearsing weekly and practising a wide range of music from sheet music. £30 per term but come along for a free taster to try it out. Parents/Carers are welcome to join and play with the group as well.

Young Essex Jazz (YEJ)

Players from Grade 2 -5 with an interest in learning jazz can join this group, led by Paul Moylan.

Once students have gained a little more experience and developed improvisation skills, they will progress onto Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra – please email or phone us as above to find out more.

Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra (EYJO)

Our award winning youth jazz orchestra (EYJO) is led by our resident conductor and jazz specialist, Martin Hathaway, Professor of Jazz at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

This group allows advanced musicians to develop jazz knowledge and improvisation skills by playing a wide range of genres from big band standards to contemporary styles and modern composers and perform at many different venues across Essex including churches, studio theatres and jazz clubs – please email or phone us as above to find out more.

Essex Youth Brass Ensemble (EYBE)

Essex Youth Brass is for all brass band and orchestral brass instruments.

The group plays a wide range of styles and composers and perform with the Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra at various venues across Essex and go on tour biannually.

Players of Grade 4 and above standard are invited to participate in a schedule of rehearsals and concerts directed by Anne Ruddock – please email or phone us as above to find out more.

Essex Youth Brass Ensemble are also invited to be members of one of our main classical orchestras, namely Essex Youth People’s Orchestra, therefore brass players will be asked to join the orchestra on their short residential courses and orchestral days.

Essex Music Service offers a range of singing opportunities out of school for young people across a wide range of genres!

Have you had some experience or are just excited to get involved?

Come and sing at one or more of our exciting new singing opportunities. Our singing programme is aimed at anyone from 7 to 18 years old, and we have opportunities for everyone!

What’s on offer?

We’ve spent time with our young people as part of our Youth Voice consultations, and created a programme in line with what our young people want – a range of genres, styles, and focussing on good singing, vocal health, and singing with others!

Our 2023-24 programme, designed by our young people, has included:

  • October 2023: Vocal Workshop with leading vocal specialist Charles MacDougall on Sunday 8 October
  • November 2023: Vocal Workshop with leading vocalists and performers Randolph Matthews and Emma Sweeney on Sunday 26 November
  • February 2024: Vocal Workshop with our Gabrieli ROAR friends Emily Dickens and Tom Appleton on Monday 19 February

 

 

Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra (EYSWO)

EYSWO provides great training for wind, brass and percussion players.

Advanced woodwind, brass and percussion players of Grade 5 and above are invited to join this county group on non-residential courses during the school holidays, to rehearse a wide variety of music from classical to film music arrangements.

Essex Young People’s Orchestra (EYPO)

EYPO is the training orchestra for Essex Youth Orchestra.

This music group aims to develop the skills necessary to become an experienced orchestral player.
Conducted by Matthew Andrews EYPO come together to rehearse a wide range of classical styles and composers and perform at many different venues across Essex.

Essex Youth Orchestra (EYO)

Essex Youth Orchestra (EYO) is the flagship orchestral ensemble for Essex Music Service, and celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2022.

Over the years we have seen many of its players from all over Essex go on to become professionals in the music industry, benefitting from the high standard and opportunities gained from their experience in EYO.

EYO’s resident director is Robin Browning and the orchestra play a wide range of classical styles and composers, performing at many different venues across Essex including Saffron Hall and Chelmsford Cathedral, as well as on tour across Europe.

Players of Grade 7+ standard on Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and Strings from across Essex are invited to attend an annual audition workshop where they can learn audition tips from professional musicians and perform their prepared audition piece – please email or phone us as above to find out more.
