Essex Young People’s Orchestra is a Symphony Orchestra containing strings, woodwind, brass, harp and percussion players of Grade 5 – 8 standard.
The Essex Young People’s Orchestra is the feeder orchestra to our flagship group, the Essex Youth Orchestra. This music group aims to develop the skills necessary to become an experienced orchestral player. Conducted by Matt Andrews, Head of Strings at Royal College of Music, EYPO come together to rehearse with two residential courses a year, one at Easter and one at Christmas and either a residential course or a tour in the summer term.
The orchestra play a wide range of classical styles and composers, and perform at many different venues across Essex including Chelmsford Cathedral.
Players of Grade 5 standard are selected by audition from Essex schools and colleges, and participate in a schedule of residential and non- residential courses, and concerts.
Date: Christmas, Easter and Summer
Time: 3-4 day residential courses at Christmas, Easter and Summer
Location: Usually New Hall School and Felsted School, Essex and Royal Hospital School, Ipswich
