Essex Music Services in partnership with Colchester Townhouse Music Sessions exceeded its crowdfunding target!

The fundraising campaign was launched in September 2019 with the aim of providing money to support and develop the fantastic work currently being achieved at the Colchester Townhouse Sessions.

Funds were gratefully received from thirty-nine backers, including significant donations from Essex Music Services, Essex County Council’s Youth Services, Mann’s Music and the Arts Council alongside money from individuals. Pledges exceeded the target and have now made it possible for studio equipment to be bought, used and stored at the Townhouse. This will transform and encourage more young people to engage in music-making in this safe environment. The long-term aim is for the venue to become known for its excellence in offering young people the chance to play live music, enjoy the power of music, create friendships and develop potential music careers.

The success of this project not only ensures that the 13 – 19 year olds have access to new instruments for their weekly Wednesday jam sessions and gigs but the young musicians and also volunteers currently running the sessions have access to six masterclass sessions held over six months.  Professional musicians from Essex Music Services will deliver the masterclass sessions covering technical set up and using music technology running open mic nights, band leadership and song-writing. The success of this partnership will be seen and heard at a concert in June 2020 where all crowdfunding contributors will be invited. More on that coming soon!

David Foley, Townhouse Sessions “We were absolutely delighted to exceed our target and are so grateful to all backers especially the significant contributions received from Essex Music Services, Essex Youth Services, Mann’s Music and the Arts Council. We look forwarding to growing this project and supporting youth music in our community.  We now have a place for young musicians to go and perform music with friends. The funding will create so many new opportunities for young musicians.”
