Are you interested in composing?

The award-winning ORA Singers has opened their third national Composer Competition, a FREE scheme aimed at developing the skills of young composers.

Run by the award-winning vocal group, ORA Singers, the Composer Competition aims to springboard young aspiring composers into the world of composition. The Competition will see 10 Finalists each receive 10 hours of one-to-one mentoring from industry-leading composers, who will help them write a brand new piece to be performed and recorded by ORA Singers in concert. Half-way through the scheme, Finalists will join ORA Singers for a Workshop, where they’ll be able to hear their work-in-progress sung by professionals, who will also offer further guidance along with a guest composer.

The Competition comes to a close with the Final Concert, where a panel of adjudicators decide on the winners. Previous panels have included Stephen Fry, John Rutter, Gareth Malone, Katie Tearle, Susanna Eastburn, Donna McKevitt, and several other industry experts. Many of our Finalists have gone on to secure places at some of the UK’s top conservatoires and universities, and have even been approached by international festivals to commission new works as a result of their participation in the Competition.

This year, we’re pleased to be expanding the Apprentice scheme to accept up to 40 Apprentices. This scheme runs alongside the Finalists’ route, and will see our Apprentices gain invaluable insight into the world of composition through 4 in-depth, online masterclasses, free of charge.

To apply, simply complete the online form and upload an Entry Composition before 12pm, 7th February 2022
