Braintree Inclusion Group is relatively new addition to our County Music Groups.  We piloted this group at Braintree Community Music Centre last year and it was a great success. This group is unique because it offers music making in an environment where children of all abilities come together and create their own pieces from scratch.

Beverley Heard, Music Ensembles Lead Officer said: “In order for this group to be accessible for all young people, we make sure that we remove all barriers.  The music created is of the highest quality and is led by inspirational tutors who are experienced in working with a broad range of young people”.

Essex Music Hub are supported by Drake Music, who are experts in providing high level music opportunities for children with additional needs and understand the importance of music education being inclusive.  As Cassie Gurling from Drake Music says: “We focus on what people can do and what they do well…  and within that space, adding a musical instrument and that is how, I have found, you can find a way to include everybody in music making.”

The success of this group comes through in the feedback of the young people who attend: “There’s no limitations to what you can and can’t do” and “What drew me in was the community spirit… it frees you up to express whatever might be going on”.

We would like more young people to come along and try this free group which takes place on Saturday mornings during term time from 10.30am-1.00pm.
