FIVE schools took to the stage as part of a programme promoting the joy of opera.

More than 200 students from Brinkley Grove School, Boxted Primary School, Great Bradford School, Myland Community Primary School and St John’s Green Primary School all took part.

They performed the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe and then Prince Caspian, both by C S Lewis, with the help of the Opera Brava company. Two performances were held at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester on 28 and 29 June 2018.

Essex Music Services, part of Essex County Council, helped deliver the programme.

The children trained to sing, experience acting and perform in a professional environment, creating the costumes and being stage managers.

Peter Lovell, Schools Curriculum Standards and Development Lead Officer, said: “We were delighted to offer this memorable experience to many children with the unique opportunity to work with a professional team and perform at the Mercury Theatre.

“This is the first time the service has partnered with Opera Brava.

We would like to thank teachers, children, the Mercury and Opera Brava for helping create this memory for the children.”
