Music-based mentoring utilises the one-to-one relationship music tutors have with their students. The music tutor is often the only regular one-to-one contact a young person has with an adult in school, and so is well placed to pick up difficulties a student may be having and to work with the school to support that child.

Working with vulnerable students in schools and Alternative Education Provision settings, trained music tutors are able to act as mentors providing musical learning activities and experiences that respond to the pupils’ own musical interests, develop their broad attitudes to learning and offer a safe way to talk about feelings, issues, challenges and choices.

If you have individuals who would benefit from this approach in your school, please contact Peter Lovell to discuss further.
