Essex Youth Chamber Choir

Essex Youth Chamber Choir is the most elite singing group that EMS offers. They meet for residential courses a couple of times a year and perform in a variety of concerts throughout the year, usually with Essex Youth Orchestra.

EYCC perform a mix of repertoire, from choral works to popular classic. Entry is by audition or invite. This group is aimed at singers with experience of singing in choirs and with skills in sight-reading.

Grade: Ages 11+ by audition only – good sight-reading necessary

Date: Christmas, Easter and Summer Holidays/weekends

Time: 3-day rehearsals (non-residential)

Essex Young Singers

Essex Young Singers perform as part of our ‘Choir In A Day’ and sing a wide variety of music, with the goal being to inspire young singers. The students focus on singing as an ensemble and then there is the challenge of singing in harmony and sometimes in other languages. Students who come along to this group are often scouted for the Essex Youth Chamber Choir.

Grade: All abilities, ages 11-18

Date: Three times a year

Time: TBC, rehearse in the daytime with an afternoon showcase

Essex Training Choir

Part of our ‘Choir In A Day’, Essex Training Choir offers students aged 7-11 an introduction to ensemble singing. This group works on developing skills such as team work and communication as well as enhancing musical development. The Training Choir perform a large range of music, and will often perform two-part pieces, beginning to build up harmony skills.

Grade: All abilities, ages 7-11

Essex Fun Singers

Part of our ‘Choir In A Day’ and our youngest singing group, Essex Fun Singers gives students ages 4-7 a chance to try out singing in an ensemble with other like-minded children. Covering fun repertoire, the Essex Fun Singers rehearse in a half-day workshop and perform with the Training Choir and Young Singers in a concert at the end of the workshop day.

Grade: All abilities, ages 4-7

Essex Youth Jazz Voices

Essex Youth Jazz Voices is led by Roisin Quinn and meet to rehearse once a term. This group sing with the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra and is for any level of singer. EYJV is an environment where students can try singing in a different style with professionals present to teach and advise them.

Grade: All abilities, ages 11-18

Date: Termly on a Sunday

Time: 10.30am-4.30pm

Location: Chelmsford County High School for Girls, Broomfield Road, Chelmsford CM1 1RW

Show Choir

Rehearsing in two full day workshops, Essex Show Choir course involves singing and dancing which leads to the performance of a full routine in a showcase concert. Often songs from films and the stage are learnt along with choreography, and each course also offers a chance for students to perform in a masterclass with professional Musical Theatre performers and work with like-minded students.

Grade: All abilities, ages 8-18

Date: Twice a year

Time: TBC, rehearse for two days including a masterclass

Fun Glee

Working with the Essex Show Choir, Fun Glee gives younger children a chance to learn simple musical theatre songs and choreography, often featuring short tunes from Disney films or West End shows that feature younger children. Fun Glee rehearses in a half-day workshop with a showcase performance alongside the Show Choir.

Grade: All abilities, ages 4-7

Date: Twice a year

Time: TBC, rehearse for two days including a masterclass
