Our first of five free CPD course –  Preparing for an Ofsted Deep Dive in Music for Primary Schools  – took place on Thursday 23 January, and was led by Sarah Goldsmith, Schools Curriculum Support Officer.

Read Sarah’s enthusiastic report:

“There is nothing more encouraging than meeting with an enthusiastic group of subject and school leaders who are putting music at the heart of their school development, and that is just what we encountered at the Ofsted session in Colchester recently.  Through questions and discussion, we looked at the new Ofsted framework and how schools can prepare themselves for a deep dive in music.

Music is such a powerful tool in schools and we spent time thinking about how the facets of a school’s music curriculum can meet the specific needs of the pupils.  We thought about how the intent can then be worked out through the school, who is delivering musical activity and how this impacts on pupil learning.

There are always challenges when delivering practical subjects in school and finding innovative and creative ways to show progress in them without impacting on children’s learning time is a particular challenge in many settings.  During the session we looked at methods of recording and celebrating progress in a busy school.

If you are interested in attending one of the future sessions, there are plenty more taking place throughout the county and you can find more details of these below.  Please also look out for our new style group MIDAS visits which we are hoping to establish in the latter half of this term.”
