Would you be able to recommend a singer who can read music? We are looking for a High Baritone/Low Tenor, Boy Treble, Girl Alto and Soprano.

Essex Music Services will be hosting a concert as part of our Youth Music Festival on Saturday 30 June at 7pm in Chelmsford Cathedral.

The four soloists will perform at this concert, accompanied by a choir made of local primary schools and accompanied by both Essex Youth Orchestras.

The Music to be performed is Phil Toms’ Island Local composer Phil Toms has written a 45 minute oratorio for soloists, choir and orchestra. The work tells the story of the residents of an Island who live together, have a conflict, and then are brought to a resolution through music. The soloists will be allocated these parts:- 

High Baritone/Low Tenor soloist – (to sing the part of Dad sung by a young man), Soprano soloist – (to sing the part of  Sophie sung by a girl), Boy Treble (to sing the part of Jack), Girl Alto (to sing the part of Mum sung by an older girl alto),

Auditions Your chosen singers will need to prepare a 3-4 minute work sung in English eg a folk song, a musical theatre piece, art song that shows their vocal range and story-telling ability. .

Auditions for all of the above vocal parts will be at Chelmsford Music School (based at Sandon School) on Wednesday 23 May from 4.30pm – 7.30pm

After the auditions, the successful candidates will be offered regular coaching at their nearest Music school to help them learn their part.
