Members of the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra have been extra busy lately keeping toes tapping …… at the Essex Teaching Awards and the Music for Youth Islington Festival.

Read Jenni Thomson, our Ensembles Co-ordinator, report on the recent performances:

The Essex Youth Jazz Quintet performed at the Essex Teaching Awards on Thursday 6th February 2020. They did a wonderful job of entertaining those invited to the ceremony as they arrived at the reception. Performing a wide range of jazz pieces, including Hum by Bob Brookmeyer to Now’s the Time by Charlie Parker. Then to finish their set the quintet accompanied the Essex Dance Theatre as they Lindy Hopped to “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it ain’t got that Swing” by Duke Ellington. It was amazing to see both groups perform together with perfect synchronicity.

Heather Faulkner, Workforce Development and Performance Manager who leads the Essex Teaching Awards working group sent “A massive thank you to the Essex Jazz Quintet for their performance.” Heather continued saying “They are very talented and we received lots of positive comments.”
