Essex Music Service runs a network of community music centres throughout the County where young musicians of any experience can play together in bands, music groups and sing in choirs.
Hockley Community Music Centre takes place on Tuesday evenings during term time at Greensward Academy and offers a great range of 1-2-1 tuition in Trumpet, Cornet, Trombone, Euphonium, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Recorder, Drums, Piano, Voice, and Violin. In addition, students can broaden their experience by playing their instrument in one of our ensembles which include Brass and also Percussion groups and a Mixed Wind Band.

Teacher-in-Charge, Jane Tong states: “We are lucky to have very experienced staff leading our ensembles, which are integral to musical development and enjoyment when learning to play an instrument. Pupils can be prepared for formal music examinations if they wish or they can simply attend the music centre to have fun and build confidence playing their instrument”.
Students perform in regular concerts with the host school at Greensward Academy who support the music centre and appreciate the quality tuition available to children in the Rochford District area.
Next year, Hockley CMC will be launching a new vocal group called Hockley Voices. This fun group will be for children who are in key stage 2 & 3, helping them to develop healthy singing techniques and experience various musical styles. Beverley Heard from Music Services says “Singing is such a great way for young people to express themselves and learn to have more confidence in their own abilities, both musically and socially. We are offering this opportunity for just £3 per week and we hope that lots of young people will come along and try it”.
Hockley CMC offer ensemble only, Small group lessons and 121 tuition packages, which are very competitively priced. As with all our Community Music Centres and Music Groups, we offer tuition discount which can be used against any of our packages.
