Teaching the Recorder one step ahead of the pupils. A course designed for class teachers with little or no experience in recorder playing.

This course is aimed at enabling classroom teachers to teach whole class Recorder lessons and stay one step ahead of the pupils!

Recorders are readily available in many primary schools and are a great instrument to learn in a group.  The principles learnt on the Recorder can be transferred to other woodwind instruments and sessions can develop musicality whilst teaching the requirements of the National Curriculum for Music.

The training will be aimed at teachers who have little or no experience playing the Recorder or haven’t played since they were at school.  Competent players are also welcome to attend.

The training will cover:

  • Sound production on the Recorder and trouble-shooting potential issues
  • How to use the Charanga schemes of learning in Recorder
  • Further repertoire in Charanga
  • Methodology of learning and progression on the recorder
  • Simple group performance ideas, including combining playing and singing.

The lesson plans and resources explored are available on Charanga so it is advised that schools have access to this, although the principles for teaching can be applied through any recorder learning scheme.

This CPD session is free to all DFE funded Essex schools. There will be a fee for schools who do not fit this category.
