Our Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra recently took part in the Music for Youth Regional Festival held at the Southbank Centre, London
It was a great opportunity to appear at this prestigious venue. The orchestra performed an exciting jazz set and the Mentors commented on the confident playing, well controlled improvisation and great solos.
The Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra already have an invitation to the National Festival later in 2019 – watch this space.
About the flagship jazz orchestra and its resident conductor.
The EYJO was formed in 1991, and over that time we have seen many students from all over Essex come and go on to study Jazz at conservatoire level.
The resident director is Martin Hathaway who has been with the band for over 30 years. The orchestra play a wide range of genres from big band standards to contemporary styles and modern composers and perform at many different venues across Essex including churches, studio theatres and jazz clubs.
